Because of its fabled life span of a thousand years, the crane is a symbol of happiness and eternal youth. The crane is one of the mystical or holy creatures, others include the dragon and the tortoise which symbolize, good fortune and longevity.

The crane and tortoise are said to naturally connect with the Jen meridian, these are pathways in the body along which vital energy flows. The meridian or energy flow pathways form the basis of Chinese acupuncture! 

From the point of view of the material world, the lungs fill with oxygen when you inhale and carbon dioxide is released when you exhale. Transcend the world of physical chemistry and you will discover that simultaneously, in a circulatory orbit within the body, vital energy flows through energy flow pathways.

As we breathe oxygen into the body, vital energy rises in a pathway to the brain. As we exhale, energy flows in a pathway down the spine to the abdomen and then via the chest it rises back up to the throat.

Depending on the person’s conscious awareness, breathing, the breath of life can range from extremely shallow, to deeply meditative!

It’s natural ability to connect to the pathways of the Jen Meridian and the Tu Meridian, are said to be the reason why the crane and the tortoise can live for a thousand years!
