The Wheel of Life

THE CIVILIZATION
SPHERE.

“The Universe is wrought for us,
by an extremely good and orderly creator”
– NICOLAUS COPERNICUS.

The Wheel of Life pictorial reflects civilization in the Astrological Age of Pisces. It comprises four spheres. The pictorial was placed at the entrance of every Tibetan monastery and temple, to allow people understand the various inter relationships and cycles that govern life.

At the core of the Wheel of Life are three animals, a cockerel, a pig and a snake who chase and touch one another in a never ending cycle. The cockerel, the pig and the snake represent ignorance, greed and anger.

The next circle depicts a cycle where people either ascend in conscious awareness or people descend in conscious awareness.

The third circle depicts the development of human consciousness, it moves clockwise from right to left. The lowest level of human consciousness are the pompous ruling elite seated in front of their mansions, next are the great body of people, below is hell on earth, then comes the rich diversity of the natural world, followed by the spiritually connected and the cycle completes with the fully enlightened.

The outer circle depicts the cycle of life from birth to death. Buddha inserted an anomaly in the Wheel of Life, this segment depicts six empty houses. The six empty houses are the six senses, sight, sound, taste, touch, smell and mind. The six senses are the tools of perception. When all senses are applied they provide common sense. With the six senses, we can distinguish truth from falsehood and yet we do not use them.

Tibetan Buddhist Scholars and the greatest Zen Master Huang Po stated emphatically, that mind is one of the senses. Mind relies on the brain, just as sight relies on the eyes, hearing relies on the ears, taste relies on the tongue, breath relies on the nose, touch relies on the skin. The function of mind, is to assimilate information and as such it probably does not provide a greater human benefit than to constantly Google. Without applying an investigative passive or draw from what we already know, there appears to be no limitation to the permeations, ideological beliefs, indoctrinations, superstitions or conclusions that the active mind can generate or accommodate.

The litmus test is that we are able to observe the mind and the myriad thoughts as they come, gather strength for a while and go.

The mind does not observe the mind!

So if we are not the mind, the question is who are we?

The seated figure at the bottom signifies a new enlightened sphere, one that embodies knowledge, compassion and justice. This sphere can and will replace the current Wheel of Life that is based on ignorance, greed and anger. The new Wheel Of Life also comprises four spheres, where knowledge, compassion and justice are at the core.

Knowledge, compassion and justice will apply to the individual sphere, the ecological sphere, the civilization sphere and the economic sphere.
